Virginia Nail Training Requirements
Manicuring or nail technology is growing as a career faster than most other professions. It is estimated by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) that the field of nail technology will grow by about 18% by 2020. To become a nail tech in Virginia, a student must complete a 275 hour approved training program. The option for a 2000-hour apprenticeship was also added in a September 2011 law update. After training, students take the national Nail Tech written and practical exams. The Virginia Board for Barbers and Cosmetology awards the nail tech license once the exams have been completed and passed
