Required Hours:
Cosmetology: 1500 Cosmetology School Hours (3000 Apprenticeship Hours)
Esthetics: 1500 Esthetician School Hours (3000 Apprenticeship Hours)
Nail Technician: 750 Nail School Hours (1200 Apprenticeship Hours)
License Requirements:
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must have at least a 10th grade education.
Reciprocity:
Reciprocity will be granted without examination if training hour requirements in the state of licensure are substantially similar to Alabama, including 5 years of practice in the profession immediately preceding application.
Renewal:
Cosmetology licenses in Alabama are valid for two years, and they must be renewed by the last day of your birth month. To renew your Alabama cosmetology license, the following items are required at the Alabama Board of Cosmetology:
- Renewal form
- Fee
- Proof of continuing education hours
- Copy of current driver's license
- 2x2 passport-style color photo
