Alabama Nail Training Requirements

As a nail technician student in Alabama, you must complete a 750 hour training program to apply for licensure through the Alabama Board of Cosmetology. You must then pass a written and a practical state exam. Students beginning nail tech school in the state must be at least 16 and have completed the 10th grade. In the course, you will take classes in nail care, manicures and pedicures, nail color application including acrylic and gels and nail art. You will take courses covering salon operations, including safety and sanitation. Alabama also offers an apprenticeship path to nail tech licensing. In apprenticeship, trainees work under the direct supervision of a master nail tech or nail tech instructor. 3000 work hours as an apprentice are required to qualify the trainee to take the written and practical examinations for licensure .
