Maine Nail Training Requirements
In order to become licensed as a nail technician in Maine, a student must be at least 17 years old and have completed the 10th grade. The Maine Board of Barbering and Cosmetology regulates nail tech licenses in Maine. Students in the Maine attend 200 hours of nail tech school lasting at least 5 weeks. They can complete an apprenticeship program consisting of 400 work hours over at least 10 weeks to be qualified, as well. After school or training, the student must pass both a written and a practical skills test with the state in order to obtain their license. Nail tech schools will include classes in giving manicures and pedicures, applying artificial nails, practicing good salon and nail hygiene and sanitation, understanding nail and skin disorders, state laws and professional ethics.
