about getting licensed in the Empire State!
Licenses Available:
Barber, Barber's Apprentice
Cosmetology
Esthetics
Nail Specialty
Natural Hair Styling
Waxing
Required Hours:
Cosmetology: 1000 Beauty School Hours
Esthetics: 600 Esthetician School Hours
Nail Specialty: 250 Nail School Hours
Natural Hair Styling: 300 Beauty School Hours
Waxing: 75 Beauty School Hours
Minimum Requirements:
Must be at least 17 years of age.
Must have a certificate from a physician showing the person is free from communicable diseases.
Reciprocity:
New York grants reciprocity to applicants whose licensure requirements are of equal or greater value than NY requirements.
Renewal:
New York cosmetology licenses are valid for two years. Currently there are no continuing education requirements for renewal. To renew your license in New York, the following is due to the NY cosmetology board:
