Minnesota: The Gopher State

If you are interested in getting your Minnesota cosmetology license or other beauty license, below is all the information you need to know about getting licensed in the Gopher State!

Licenses Available:
Cosmetologist
Esthetician
Manicurist

Required Hours:
Cosmetologist: 1550 Cosmetology School Hours
Esthetician: 600 Esthetics School Hours
Manicurist: 350 Nail School Hours
Electrology is not licensed by the State but may be regulated by the local municipality.

License Requirements:
Must have at least a 12th grade education or G.E.D.

Reciprocity:
May be granted to currently licensed applicants who pass the Minnesota Board Exam and who have at least 1800 hours of licensed experience within the last three years.

Renewal:
Michigan cosmetology licenses are renewed on a three-year schedule. To renew your license in Michigan, the following must be submitted to the MI cosmetology board:
- Renewal form
- Fee
