Louisiana Cosmetology Licensing Requirements

Louisiana: The Pelican State

If you are interested in getting your Louisiana cosmetology lilcense or other beauty license, below is all the information you need to know about getting licensed in the Pelican State!

Licenses Available:
Cosmetology
Esthetics
Nail Technology

Required Hours:
Cosmetology: 1500 Hours
Electrologist: 600 Hours (600 Apprenticeship)
Esthetics: 750 Hours
Nail Technology: 500 Hours

License Requirements:
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must have completed 10th grade at an approve high school.
Complete required hours in approved cosmetology school curriculum.
Pass state board examinations.
Payment of proper fees.

Reciprocity:
Louisiana grants reciprocity to all applicants who hold a license from all states with reqirements that are the same or greater than Louisiana.

Renewal:
Louisiana renews cosmetology licenses annually, and the state requires 16 hours of continuing education to in order to renew. The following is required at the LA cosmetology board to renew:
- Renewal form
- Fee
- Proof of continuing education hours
