Kentucky: The Bluegrass State

If you are interested in getting your Kentucky cosmetology license or other beauty license, below is all the information you need to know about getting licensed in the Bluegrass State!

Licenses Available
Cosmetologist
Nail Technician

Required Hours:
Cosmetologist: 1800 Hours
Nail Technician: 600 Hours

License Requirements:
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must have completed at least 2 years of high school or equivalent.

Reciprocity:
Applicants from out-of-state who holds a valid license and can show proof of two years work experience may take the cosmetology practical examination for reciprocal licensing in Kentucky.

Renewal:
Licenses must be renewed by July 31 anually. Kentucky requires 6 hours of continuing education to renew your license. The following must be provided to the KY cosmetology board for renewal:
- Renewal form
- Fee
- Proof of continuing education hours
