The Prodigal Pink Blush and Doll House Trend

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

ts-105774749After a long absence, there was finally a hint of pink at New York Fashion Week as makeup artists returned to a pink cheek and lip color this season. And whether paired with neon lashes or power brows, the pink palette proved to be highly versatile in all its forms.

Pink cheeks created the immensely popular “doll house” look at Balmain, Oscar de la Renta and Louis Vuitton. Makeup artists used light reflecting foundation to impart the illusion of dew-kissed skin. Creamy blushes that ranged from sheer rose to petal pink helped achieve a delicate painted-on cheek.

While pink lips accentuated the sporty athletic look of DKNY, Isabel Marant and Timo Weiland. An assortment of berry-, coral- and rose-colored glosses and lipsticks set off the apricot glow of sun-swept cheeks.

A soft pink palette works well on all skin tones by day or night. Judging by the long list of stars popping up on the red carpet, it is a perennial favorite at the Oscars too. According to US Weekly, Tina Fey wore Ultra Shine Lipgloss in Sugar Pink by Tom Ford Beauty. Cameron Diaz wore Rouge in Love in Roses In Love by Lancome.

You can get the trendy pink glow when you start with a clean, exfoliated face. Apply moisturizer and a hydrating foundation or luminizer to create the look of dewy-skin. Brush the tops of your cheeks with a light pink blush. For a more sculptured cheek, add a moisturizing blush down the sides of your cheeks in peach bronze to create contours.

Prepare chapped lips with a thin film of lip balm. The Glamour magazine website recommends buffing lips with a damp washcloth or sliding a piece of ice along your lips to prevent lipstick from bleeding. The idea is similar to rinsing your face with cool water to close pores. From a physical science standpoint, cool temperatures force skin cells to shrink and prevent lip color from settling into the skin above and below your lip line. Keep in mind skin cells expand when they reach ambient temperatures and create a larger surface area, which leaves a gap between the lip color and lip line.

Apply a moisturizing lipstick straight from the tube, then blend the color with a fingertip or blot with a tissue to maximize staying power. Concentrate the color in the center of your mouth because that is where the color wears off the quickest. You can always add a layer of gloss for additional shine. The beauty of pale pinks is that you cannot go wrong. You can play it up or down and create a look that is all your own.

G-Dragon was always known as the first one to try something new and unique since he first debuted. Even though his sense of style has been praised upon by his fans, this hair style shocked the fans rather than impress them. G-Dragon can pull of anything though. Escuelas de Belleza: El Primer Paso Hacia a un Futuro Prominente!

Monday, February 27th, 2012

Celebrity Spring Hair Trends

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

celebrity-hair-trendsSpring is here and with it comes warm weather, a little rain and a lot of color! While color is a sign that nature is gearing up for change, color can also help to update and modernized our look as well. As spring approaches, some women will want to complete their seasonal style transformation with a new and exciting hair color or stylish hair cut. If you’re wondering how you can infuse the spirit of spring into your day-to-day style, go bold with a brightly colored tress. Or, if bold colors aren’t your style, try muted tones of silvery blond or gray. Either way, you’ll be on trend and ready for spring!

Go Gray
One of the biggest hairstyling trends that has carried over into 2012 is color. Interestingly enough, the color for the day is gray. Whether you are young or a little more mature, gray is the “it” color of the moment. Gray tresses have been popping up all over fashion magazines and runways – proving that gray is not just for the Bing Hall anymore. Hollywood starlets like Katy Perry and Kelly Osbourne have been spotted sporting the Geriatric Couture hair colors. While Katy Perry is currently sporting an electric blue tress, she has been known to accent her baby blue locks with silvery blond highlights. Kelly Osbourne, on the other hand, is probably best known for her all-over blue-gray tress.

Get Some Color
Last year, one of the hottest trends in hair was ombre color blocking. The ombre trend was huge because it can be applied in a variety of color applications and works for women of all ages. One of the easiest ways to incorporate the ombre trend in your hair color is with darker roots and lighter tips. Several celebrities are sporting this look including model Kate Moss, actress Diana Argon, and television personality Kloe Kardashian. This trend works well with blonds or brunettes and involves blending darker-toned roots with honey, brown and blond ends. If you are looking to jazz up your ombre color, try adding a hint of vanilla blond to your tress or a bold, bright color.

Color isn’t just for blonds or brunettes, redheads can certainly get in on the fun too! This spring, redheads should think about turning up their color. Celebrities redheads like Christina Hendricks and Emma Stone have put redheads back on the map with their intensely rich shades of red. If you are really bold, opt for rainbow styling and try a shade of reddish/pink or a ombre design using red tones.

Go To New Lengths
One of the biggest hair trends for spring are short hairstyles. The pixie cut and the bob are back with a vengeance and have been revamped for 2012. Try a modern bob that is accented with color and textured with waves or curls. Or, leave your short style straight and slick it back with a styling gel for a carefree wet look. Australian actress Rachel Taylor and English actress Keira Knightley have both been spotted sporting this trend.

If you have a medium length tress, talk to your stylist about pinning your hair under for a faux bob without the commitment of cutting your hair. While short styles are on trend, women with long locks may want to take advantage of their length with elegant and messy updos that give the illusion of shorter locks. Add fun hair accessories like feathers, clips and necklaces to take your updo from fun to fantastic!

If you are looking for a start into the fashion trending industry, finding a beauty school or cosmetology school might be the best idea.

Kim Kardashian Inspired Nude Lips Are In This Fashion Season

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

ts-80402116As the calendar prepares to turn to spring and the fruit begins to ripen on the vines, women all over the globe have been awaiting the next hot lip color that was to be revealed as the temperatures start to heat up. To the surprise of many, designers threw the fashion world a giant curveball in recent weeks as starlets and runway queens like Kim Kardashian have been spotted entirely devoid of lipstick altogether. Indeed, nude lips are going to be seen by the masses in the coming months.

The “nude lips” trend has exploded onto the International fashion scene and has been openly embraced by many of the most important figures in the industry. The look certainly conjures up mental associations of nakedness and purity that drive men absolutely wild, but there is a bit more to the experimentation with de-emphasizing the face’s most striking natural feature.

Companies have began to realize that keeping lips pure and often coated in nothing more than a thin layer of gloss is an excellent way to establish a sense of purity, innocence and even an angelic status in their models. While this can obviously garner attention and create visceral reactions in some, it also creates an immediate opportunity for a striking and visually memorable contrast with the wardrobe or with makeup applied to other areas of the face.

In recent years, the obsession with enhancing the look of the eyes through eyeliners and other tricks has taken on a life all its own, and it now reaches so far as to dominate the typical designer and makeup artist’s approach to creating a look. Many artists are choosing to keep the lips a natural color so that they can absolutely go wild with colors and designs surrounding the eyes without making a smooth and beautiful face look like an overly cluttered painting.

As is the case in the fashion world, trends move quicker than chartered jets from Milan to New York City.

Labels from Derick Lam to Tommy Hilfiger have already hopped on the nude-lipped train and are ready to ride it for as long as the public embraces the refreshing trend. The Hilfiger team recently trotted out a model to display their Spring 2012 collections that was adorned in only a clear gloss and light blush coupled with a swinging ponytail, and their minimalist approach was met with acclaim for hitting its mark in displaying the raw power of natural beauty unleashed.

Thousands of women that exist on the very cutting edge of style have already holstered their tiny red cylinders for the time being, anxious to embrace their natural roots and show the world their unaltered smiles within the context of being fashionable and trendy.

The next event in the fashion chain of evolution will be for manufactures to release a slew of products that are designed to enhance the look, shine and perhaps shape of your lips without using anything more than clear gloss.

If you are looking for a start into the fashion trending industry, finding a beauty school or hair school might be the best idea.

Beauty Look of the Moment: Lana Del Rey

Monday, February 20th, 2012

With wavy hair, subtle nude lips, and dramatic eyes, Lana Del Rey is a vision of ethereal beauty. Her beautiful look has become the fantasy of both men and women. As an American singer and songwriter, Lana Del Rey enthralls audiences with her unique voice and stunning appearances. Her music video, “Video Game,” has received over 30 million hits on YouTube. She is poised to become the next hottest pop star in America.

Del Rey has already made her debut on the cover of the world’s leading fashion magazine Vogue. She will be appearing on the March 2012 cover of British Vogue. It is no wonder why the fashion mogul magazine chose to feature Lana Del Rey on its cover. Her lovely hair filled with bouncy curls is the look of the moment. Look at any fashion runway, and you will see models who have a similar look. Women on city streets try to emulate this look with big curling irons and hot rollers.

Lana Del Rey Hair

If you want to add this touch of Hollywood Glamour to your look, you can achieve it too. The easiest way to get this look with bouncy curls is by using curling tongs that have a large barrel. Curling tongs are not like a traditional curling iron. Curling tons differ, because they do not have a clasp on them. This allows you to achieve a more natural curled look in your hair. No “dents” will be noticeable in your hair with this type of curling tool.

After curling one-inch sections of your hair with curling tongs, the next step is to brush lightly through your hair once or twice. Do not completely brush through all of your curls. Rather, only touch a brush lightly to the curls that you have created. This will give you a softer and more feminine look akin to Lana Del Ray’s look.

Lana Del Rey Natural Make-up

The ethereal beauty of Lana Del Rey is not complete without some natural makeup, of course. You can achieve this look as well. In addition to making your look more feminine with soft and bouncy curls, you can also achieve a feminine look through your makeup. Simply use black eyeliner to create a defined eye. Creating a “smoky eye” look is the easiest way to emulate Lana Del Rey‘s beauty. Simply cover your lid with gray or charcoal shadow. Smudge eyeliner on the edges of your eyelids. This will give you a sexy and seductive look. For the lips, you can use either a nude lip-gloss or red lipstick. If you are feeling more daring, then go for the red lipstick. If you like a more innocent look, then choose the nude lip-gloss.

The look is then perfected with a touch of coral powder on the cheekbones. Adding a touch of blush to your cheekbones will make you look like an angel. You may even be mistaken for Lana Del Rey the next time you are out and about!

Lana Del Rey continues to inspire millions with her music and her unbelievably gorgeous sense of fashion.

Marc Jacobs breaks the rules, uses underage models at Fashion Week

Chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), Diane Von Furstenberg, released some rules prior to New York Fashion Week for fashion designers to follow. These guidelines are meant to protect the safety and well-being of the models. The rules include mandatory assistance for those suffering from eating disorders and designers providing healthy meals during fittings. In addition, underage models need to supply ID to prove that they’re 16 years or older.

Although this list was released not long ago, in fact about two weeks ago, Marc Jacobs ignored the regulations and included two underage models in his show. He sent the two 14-year old models down the catwalk for his autumn/winter 2012 show.

The models, Ondira Hardin and Thairina Garcia, hit the runway in Jacobs’ show, held on Monday, February 13. When the New York Times asked Jacobs asked about not following the guidelines, he made the unapologetic remark: “I do the show the way I think it should be and not the way somebody tells me it should be.”

Jacobs continued to support his decision and made the comment that the CFDA can’t influence how he does his shows, despite the rules that have been implemented by the industry.

Jacobs defended his decision by stating that the parents allowed the children to be in the show, and that it shouldn’t be him who has to tell the teens no. Additionally, the designer notes how children are able to be in catalogue ads and act on television and in films. He declared if the child wants to do it and the parents are okay with it, then it doesn’t make sense to deny them.

The CFDA has announced that it has no plans of action against Jacobs since the guidelines are voluntary and it is up to the designers whether or not they want to follow them.

Still, all of this debate is missing the real question: What is up with those hats?

Lead and Lipstick: 11 Brands That Are Pucker-Safe and Lead-Free

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

lead-and-lipstick-77282818

It is true that women from all over the globe will go to great lengths to look beautiful, but no woman should have to put her own health at risk just to look good. In recent years, it has been determined that many, if not most, of the lipsticks contain trace amounts of lead. Lead is a powerful element that has been known to cause a number of health problems in people of all ages, especially youngsters. Is the hubbub over this nothing more than a smear tactic used to scare women and make investors nervous, or should women of all ages be paying close attention to these findings?

Hot coals were thrown on the debate a few years ago when the Food and Drug Administration released information that stated one out of every three lipsticks sold in stores tested at more than 0.1 parts per million of lead. The FDA was quick to state their opinion that the amounts are so minute they cannot possibly cause any harm to the body, even over a prolonged amount of time.

Several doctors and advocacy groups disagree and have been trying to get the government to address the situation and rid the lipstick industry of lead entirely. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and a handful of senators have recently put pressure on the FDA to establish and oversee a universal safety standard that would completely eliminate lead from lipstick forever. The FDA stated that they are currently waiting for a peer-reviewed journal to make a final decision about whether to get involved in cleaning up lipstick.

An editor of a well known health website brought up the good point that the way toxicologists and advocacy groups evaluate risk to the public is completely different, and this case is simply another example of two groups using two different criteria for measurement. As a result, it is unlikely that there will be able to find common ground in the near future.

But while they debate, it’s good to know that there’s a bright and color-rich side: Several lipsticks have tested free of lead, and we’ve got a list of them for you.

  • Avon Ultra Color Rich Cherry Jubilee
  • The Body Shop Lip Color Garnet
  • Clinique Long Last Lipstick Merlot
  • Dior Replenishing Lip Color Red Premiere
  • Estee Lauder Maraschino
  • MAC Matte Lipstick Viva Glam 1
  • Revlon Superlustrous Love That Red
  • Revlon Superlustrous Bed of Roses
  • Revlon Colorstay Lipcolor Red Velvet
  • Tarte Inside Out Vitamin Lipstick
  • Wet n Wild Mega Colors Cherry Blossom

The discussion is likely to go on for awhile yet, but the rest of us can do our part in the debate simply by staying informed. Not just on the arguments but also on what is in our favorite beauty products – because we should definitely know what we’re putting on and into our bodies.

Read more about chemicals in beauty products and green beauty products here.

What do you think? Should the government get involved in the lead-in-lipstick debate?
